City of Grand Rapids Water System TruckRecently, the Grand Rapids Water System received reports of individuals going to homes in the Grand Rapids area impersonating Water System employees, for the purpose of gaining access. The Grand Rapids Police and Kent County Sheriff Department are investigating these incidents.

The City of Grand Rapids would like to remind citizens that all Water System employees carry City issued identification cards (see below). These cards have the employee’s name and photograph clearly displayed. The customary practice is to schedule an appointment with our customers should an employee need to enter a home or business to gain access to the water meter or for other water service related issues. Additionally, in most cases Water System employees are driving a City vehicle and wearing a uniform shirt with the City logo. Water System employees never go to a home or business to collect money for water services.  Charges for water service are placed on the next water bill.

Never allow an individual to enter your home or business without proper identification for any reason. If you have any questions regarding an individual claiming to be a Grand Rapids Water System employee, please call Customer Service at 311 or 456-3000 during normal working hours or 456-3249 after hours.
