    The Grand Rapids Fire Department is partnered with another community organization. Heroes for a Day, which is part of Queen for a Day and focuses on empowering patients by promoting beauty and inner strength. The programs target is children ages 1-21 and aims to counter the debilitating emotional side effects of cancer treatment through positive attention and self-confidence building activities.

    Brooke Buikema, Chapter Director, held an event at the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital on April 15th, 2009 of which GRFD sent members to assist with the Heroes. The event was a great success with 14 children being treated like a king or queen. The GRFD looks forward to the next event Brooke is planning in early August.

    A big “Thank You” goes to Brooke for starting this local chapter in February of 2009. You are touching a lot of little and big hearts with your march in life! For more pictures and information:
