    The Grand Rapids Fire Department (GRFD) is committed to providing specialized response in the following areas:

    • Rope Rescue
    • Confined Space Rescue
    • Trench Rescue
    • Collapse Rescue
    • Water Rescue
    • Mechanical and Vehicle extrication
    • Hazardous Materials
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
    Regional Response Team 61

    The GRFD is the major component that makes up the Regional Response Team 61. This is a State of Michigan team whose main purpose is to respond to WMD events. This team consists of highly trained and dedicated personnel, whose purpose is to provide support and technical assistance to other communities outside of the Grand Rapids Metro area.

    Regional Technical Rescue Team

    In addition, the GRFD in concert with area Fire Departments is a major contributor to the Regional Technical Rescue Team. A cooperative function providing assistance outside the borders of Grand Rapids for such complex rescues as Rope, Confined Space Rescue, Trench and Collapse Rescue.
