Mission StatementWelcome to the City of Grand Rapids Development Center! We facilitate the physical development of the City by providing an efficient one-stop source for project planning, construction plan review, permitting, and inspection services. The Development Center is staffed by members of the Building Inspections Division, Planning Department, Engineering Department, Water and Sewer Utilities, Environmental Services, Fire Safety, and Traffic Safety. We are available for in-person consultations regarding development issues. Benefits of the one-stop approach include a simplified approval process and improved coordination of staff review efforts. |
BUILDING & LUDS PERMIT FEE INCREASES - The City Commission has approved increases in the building permit and Land Use Development Services (LUDS) permit fee schedules effective July 1, 2010. The new rate for residential and commercial building permits is $40 for the first $1,000 of construction cost and $6.50 (previously $6.00) for each additional $1,000, or fraction thereof. The flat rate for residential re-roofing, re-siding, decks, and pools remains unchanged at $50.00 For the complete Building Inspections fee schedule, click here. LEAD BASED PAINT CERTIFICATION - Beginning April 2010, contractors performing work that disturbs lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be EPA certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. For commercial development projects, plan review comments and project status are available on-line. To view the information for your project, click “Plan Review Comments” on the menu bar to the left. You will have to enter the plan review number that was assigned to your project.
