Since 1974, the Paul I. Phillips Recreation Center has been operating a year round recreation program. In the summer of 1979, the facility was formally dedicated as the Paul I. Phillips Recreation Center in honor of the late community leader and minority advisor to President Gerald R. Ford.
Beginning in August, 2003, the Center expanded programming and updated equipment in order to better serve the community. The Paul I. Phillips Recreation Center also teamed up with the "Recreation Reaps Rewards" free after school and evening educational and recreational program. We have structured organized activities and special events along with free play, including basketball. There also is a certified fitness instructor available to show participants how to use our treadmills, stair-steppers, elliptical machines, exercise cycles and weight training equipment. Special events include Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration for Peace and the Dr. King's Games.
