    Playground Construction at Fuller Park

    A dedicated Parks Millage was approved by Grand Rapids voters on November 5, 2013. This 7-year millage provides funding for repair, rehabilitation, and new improvements to parks, pools, and playgrounds.

    What's happening now

    Planning for four parks was completed in the fall of 2016 for construction in the summer of 2017. Community meetings were scheduled with neighborhood associations to gain community input on park design and improvements.

    ​​Grand re-opening events will be scheduled for these parks in spring 2018.

    Huff Park - Upgrades to boardwalk, restrooms, and playground. Construction is now underway, with anticipated completion in April 2018. Concept plans: Boar​dwalk; Restr​ooms


    ​Coming Up

    Community meetings have taken place in the summer and fall of 2017 for input on park design and improvements, with construction to take place in the summer of 2018. 

    Cambridge Park 

    New pathway connections, restored lawn at ballfield, pedestrian access improvements, new bike rack, picnic tables and drinking fountain, and improved landscaping.

    Cheseboro Park

    ​​New playground, pedestrian access improvements, improved landscaping, new picnic area and benches, additional site amenities.

    Coit Park 

    Removal of non-funtioning restroom building, relocation of playground with additional play equipment, new community picnic and event area, new trees and benches along upper pathway, ​drinking fountain, landscaping improvements, various site amenities.

    Mooney Park 

    New playground equipment, improved pedestrian lighting, landscaping improvements, benches, and additional site amenities.

    Ottawa Hills Park 
    Inclusive, universally accessible playground, nature play area, new pathway, picnic area, bike racks and site amenities.

    Plaster Creek Family Park 

    Community input and design is currently underway in partnership with GRPS/Burton School and Our Community's Children.

    Martin Luther King Park 

    New picnic area including picnic shelter, improved pedestrian lighting, new playground equipment, lodge improvements (restroom renovations, kitchenette renovation, general interior upgrades), general site amenities.

    Bike Park 

    Phase I: New tot track (bike loop course for 2-5 year olds), intermediate pump track, bike playground or skills loop, and general site improvements.

    Past Projects 

    Improvements to six parks (Camelot, Campau, Dickinson, Douglas, Mary Waters, and Mulick) were completed in 2016.
