    Captain Curt VanderKooi

    Captain Curt VanderKooi joined the Grand Rapids Police Department in 1980.  Captain VanderKooi has served as a Patrol Officer, Major Case Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Training Unit Commander, IAU Commander, Support Service Division Commander, and Southeast Service Area Commander.  Captain VanderKooi graduated from MSU with a B.A. in Criminal Justice in 1977, Aquinas College with a B.A. in Business Administration in 1986, Grand Valley State University with a M.B.A in 1990, and is a graduate of the FBI Nationanl Academy, 196th Session in 1999.



    Lieutenant Kristen Rogers​


    Lieutenant Kristen Rogers graduated from Michigan State University in 1995, with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology.  She joined the GRPD in 1996 and began serving as a Patrol Officer, before being assigned to the Investigative Division.  For the next 12 years, Lieutenant Rogers was assigned to various positions within the Detective Unit, including those with the General Case, Family Services, and Major Case Teams.  During this time, Lieutenant Rogers was successful with investigating many high-profile criminal cases, including a cold case homicide investigation.  In 2012, she was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as the Supervisor of the Family Services Team, where she devoted much of her time and energy into the Department’s coordinated response to crimes that involve minors and the victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.  In 2015, Lieutenant Rogers was assigned to oversee patrol operations as a Watch Commander, before returning to the Investigative Division, in 2017, as the Detective Unit Commander.  During her time with the Department, Lieutenant Rogers has received a Lifesaving Medal, two Commendation Awards, two Achievement Awards, a Meritorious Unit Citation, and numerous Letters of Recognition.  She was also nominated for Police Officer of the Year in 2011.
